From 1948 till present, New Thankful has gone through many seasons, all while leaning on the everlasting arms of God. New Thankful Baptist Church experiences over the years, has been increases and decreases in membership turnover, years of surviving a split among the congregation, surviving a catastrophic building collapse, and a devastating church fire, still the church mustered incredible resolve and gathered in the back of another church to retain its membership, and its identity. That period of location limbo ended up lasting more than a decade. Most churches would have folded, and some have under less and such pressure of not having its own home, nor a permanent Pastor, but not New Thankful Baptist Church! God’s hands are truly on this church. A little over three years ago, the church made the decision to start anew, and trust God through the process. New Thankful brought in current Pastor Rev. Dr. Roderick Knox. His presence reignited the church’s desire for greater service for God. The church had branded itself as the “Church of New Beginnings.” New Thankful is about new beginnings and is a breath of fresh air for the community and the Philadelphia area. They are ushering in a new culture shift in the community. Shortly after Pastor Knox was installed, the church purchased their current location and hit the ground running. New Thankful has been constant beacon of light/hope impacting the community we serve through food drives, book bags filled with school supplies, bike/toy giveaways, community block parties to feed the people in our community inviting them to come worship with us, in addition to giving cards in the community, as well as feeding families at the Ronald McDonald House, and teaming up with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to provide breakfast and lunch for children all summer long. New thankful Baptist Church is about WINNING SOULS FOR GOD and impacting the community by all means necessary.
